A tree saver strap is a great product for more things than just preventing killing trees (and tree preservation) while doing a vehicle recovery. While the main purpose is to protect trees, a tree saver can also be used as a recovery strap to pull out a stuck vehicle or tow a vehicle.

Looping a winch line around a tree trunk is a dangerous practice. The winch rope can cut through the bark and permanently damage the tree, or even kill it.

In fact, using any kind of thin strap or rope to wrap around a tree can be a bad thing, causing the same problemyou can possibly kill trees. The line can also cut into the tree, embedding in the trunkextraction can damage the line which can lead to rope failure.

If you have to use a winch rope for some reason, you should use a tree trunk protector to defuse the pressure from the winch rope.
